As everyone is not doubt aware the website has been down for some time.
This is not my fault but the fault of orange who changed the way their webspace is administered. It is no longer possible to build a website offline and transfer (FTP) it to their servers. The only way to administer the webspace now is to use their “web builder” facility. This is designed to allow people without programming experience to build websites easily. However, this means that it removes a lot of flexibility and power from people who can program (not sure that includes me!). Even so, it had a try at using the “web builder” to try and build the website afresh. Unfortunately it is a non-starter as it limits you to 5 pages only and prohibits frames and JAVA. Our website has more than 30 pages and uses frames and quite a lot of JAVA.
So what to do?
Obviously, the orange webspace is a dead loss. So here is a few solutions:-
1) Buy some webspace from the domain hosting company www.easily.co.uk who currently host our domain. They sell there webspace in amount of data transferred, this equates to the size of the pages and the number of web hits. See the following link for prices (note we need windows access not linux)
http://easily.co.uk/index.php3?exe=comptable (we would have to use the virtual product)
2) Use someone else’s webspace. Most ISP’s provide an amount of free webspace just like orange did, but we need someone who is with an ISP that permits FTP access. The problem with this option is what do we do if the person stops playing county pool? I'm sure they will want their webspace back.
3) Transfer the domain to an entirely new domain hosting company that has a better deal on webspace.
Your thoughts please gentleman.
