west mids away 20-01-08well the first match has been and gone and a very mixed bag of results
a team lost 28-16
b team won 24-20
ladies lost 29-15
juniors lost 29-15
the men's A team -I'm sure picky will post a report at some stage but my observations are that whilst west mids played well we didn't perform and clearly some of our leading players had a bad day at the office. Pick of the results was Mr Rowe with 3/4 and clearly we will need his commitment to the cause alongside 4/5 other leading players if we are not going to have a long hard year. There is a real opportunity this year for new players to test their mettle at this higher level and performances of existing players will need to be improved and chances taken as and when they present themselves as this level is not getting any easier.
The men's B TEAM -well I might as well retire now as 4/4 and man of the match means there still life in the old dog yet and with Alan Ray also getting 2/4 the old timers are leading the way. Good results also from Danny Rhodes 4/4 james blant 3/4 and neal jackson 3/4 meant this side met my prediction although the last section was scrappy and the team needs to push on once it gets past the finish line.
With 2 reserves and kev smith travelling even so he was not guarenteed a game there will definitely be some real competition for places.
missed chances and what might have been? will not secure places so people will have to take the chances as they come.
An excellent team spirit was a good starter for ten and a win is now on the board.
Ladies not a good result and a slow start especially when 1 player down means michelle has a job to do. It seems that there were some positives and i'm sure michelle will post a report in time.
Juniors - a hard lesson to be learnt - missed chances galore meant what should have been a close fought battle with an excellent west mids side ended up with that side accepting the gifts presented. At least 7 frames were gifted through nerves,sloppy finishing and arrogance- some players brought down to earth with a bump!!! sorry to be so blunt but the attitude of 2/3 of the players was poor -criticising teammates not supporting newcomers and generally thinking they are better than they are - this will be addressed at the next match and some surprises could occur if team spirit doesn't become the main focus of some individuals. It will be very hard to top the rankings if players are sat on the bench.
Robert christie was the pick of he results with 3/4 with kye overton and sam bennett also getting 3.
hopefully this match gives the team the lesson it needed to learn.
as you can see no punches pulled just a honest and frank report which i will always try to give
notts next on the 24-2-08 so let's build on the good foundations this match presented and take the chances as i know many players were disappointed with the games they played.

last matchwell done paddy, wont mention the 4 fluked black.lol or the bribe you gave the other player before each frame. nontheless 4/4 is not bad would like to see an improvement next time from you though. karl
